QUILT SHOW SLEEVE INSTRUCTIONS
After you have machine or hand quilted your project you MUST attach a sleeve prior to Shipping or Dropping Off your Quilt for the Show.
Steps To Follow:
Measure your project across the top of the quilt.
Cut a strip of fabric the7” wide by the measurement of the top of your quilt. Muslin works well.
Make an edge finish on each of the 7" sides by pressing a double-fold.
Fold the strip lengthwise with right sides together.
Make a 1/2" seam along the length of this strip of fabric to form a tube.
Flip the tube right side out and press so that the seam is mid-way in the back of the tube, now your "sleeve"
Lay the sleeve in place just below the binding at the top. Please note: if your quilt is taller than 90", place sleeve so that the top of the sleeve is 90" above the bottom of your quilt.
Either safety pin or sew a hand running stitch along the top edge of the sleeve.
Either safety pin or sew a hand running stitch along the bottom edge of the sleeve, leaving a little slack when pinning it at the bottom so that the hanging rod will not show through the front of the project.
The hanging rod will be inserted between the layers of the sleeve so that it does not come in contact with the quilt.
NOTE: If you prefer, you can catch the top edge of the hanging sleeve under the binding as you sew it down for a wallhanging. However, a full size quilt is heavier so it is best to attach the sleeve on its own so as not to compromise the quilt binding.
Safety Pins work well if
you don't intend to leave the sleeve permanently attached.
